JL-
1. What do you consider the most important event of your life so far?
CAILAN:
As awful as this may sound, the event that sticks out in my head is the
day I was handed over to Jarek and the Cylandrean kingdom to fulfill an
ancient treaty, spare my brother, and end a war. At the time, it felt
like my world was ending. And even now, there is a twinge of pain when I
think of the fear and betrayal I felt that day. But, overriding that
twinge, I'm grateful for that day because it has resulted in the love I
share with Jarek and the sparing of many lives.
2. What do you consider your greatest achievement?
CORBIN:
I think most of my peers that I'm now on Neveah with would say
something about being picked as a Traveler. That was a pretty big deal
to me. Although, some days it's almost like I can't believe I am
a Traveler, like maybe it's really just a joke. Anyway, in my heart, I
think my greatest achievement happened when I was twelve. My dads
wanted to build a small, detached addition to our house for my mom to
craft in. She loved making clothes and pillows and stuff like that.
They started researching designs and building materials. I studied what
they were looking at and then designed and drew out the addition, as
well as picked what I thought seemed to be the best wood and glass
materials. When I showed it to my dads, they were speechless. I
thought at first they were trying to find a way to nicely tell me how it
wouldn't work. But then they said it was perfect, and the three of us built it exactly as I'd described. Mom was so happy she cried.
3. What is the most embarrassing thing ever to happen to you?
CONNOR:
Why do people ask this question? Who wants to share their most
embarrassing moment! Ugh, well I guess I'll give in. For me, it's not a
big deal now, but at the time it happened I was horrified. You see,
when I was eight there was this big state fair about an hour from where I
lived. My parents and I went. There were rides and games, which I loved, and crafts that my mom gushed over but I thought looked like junk.
The fair also had tracks set up for animal races--horses, dogs, pigs,
sheep, etc. At one of the pig races, a big man was picking kids out of
the audience and assigning them the numbers of the pigs that were
racing. If their number won, the kid got a prize. Well, I was assigned
a number and my pig won! I ended up having to go down to meet the man
in front of the audience to get my prize, which ended up being a big
poster of a pot-bellied pig. Weird right? Anyway, the guy asked me if I
wanted a chance to win something else. Well, of course I said yes.
What kid wouldn't?
The next thing a new, this assistant lady was lifting me up and putting
me in the track where the pigs had just run, and the man was announcing
into the microphone to the audience that I was going to race the
pigs!!! I wanted nothing more than to get out of there right away, but
I couldn't get out without help. Then the man abruptly says, "Ready, set, GO!".
I was afraid the pigs might run out and attack me, so I started running
around the track, and the man kept yelling, "They're right behind you!
Hurry! Don't look back!" I didn't look back and the audience was
shouting and cheering. I didn't look. I just ran!
When I got to the end of the track, I finally looked behind me and
found out the pigs had never been let out. The whole thing was a huge
joke and the audience was laughing. I was humiliated, and I Did
Not get any extra prize. I was crying and so upset the rest of the day,
even though my mom kept trying to console me. When I got home I ripped
the poster in half. I haven't really like pigs ever since.
4. Do you tend to argue with people, or avoid conflict?
MAX:
I tend to avoid conflict. I hate arguing with people, and I tend to be
paranoid at times. It's actually a really good thing that I can work
at home mostly as a writer. It is difficult when my articles go to
editing and I get a lot of things to correct, especially if I thought it
was a great article on its own, but usually I just make the necessary
changes. Maybe someday I'll write a book and self-publish it, so that
the only opinion I get on it at that time is my own.
5. How do you spend a typical Saturday night?
TOMMY:
I LOVE to go out on the town. Movies, concerts, one-time events, etc.
Parker usually goes along with what I want, although he occasionally
asks for a quiet night at home instead. However, I think a favorite
weekend evening activity for us is a beach walk with a campfire to come
back to and sit beside. The sound of ocean waves mixed with a crackling
fire is really soothing and it's really intimate when it's just the two
of us. So long as the weather is nice, we do this about once a month.
